Abortion(final)

Dr. J.C. Willke defines the word alive as, “that which is growing, developing, maturing, and replacing its own dying cells.” If this is true about the meaning of living, how does it differ from a baby inside a mother’s womb? Simple answer, it doesn’t. The baby is a growing fetus and is developing inside the mother’s stomach. This is why abortion should be made illegal.
“An abortion is the forcible removal of a developing baby from the womb of his or her mother, using surgical, mechanical, or chemical means” (Abortion). In the United States alone; there have been 1.7 million abortion per year and approximately 3,700 a day. Different procedures are used to perform the abortion. One for example is Dilatation and Extraction, which “the baby is delivered feet first. The head is left inside the birth canal. A sharp instrument is then used to puncture the rear of the skull at the base and the brains are sucked out, once dead, the baby is fully delivered.” Other procedures are Dilatation and Evacuation, Partial Birth, Pregnancy Reduction, and Saline Amniocentesis. Many of the procedures are done by either poisoning the baby or physically killing the baby with a tool. Most of the mothers who have an abortion don not see how wrong and bad abortion is.
The women who have an abortion are not just killing the babies, but they are putting themselves in danger at the same time. Having an abortion may come with complications after the procedures. They can get bladder injury, bowel injury, breast cancer, tubal pregnancy, effects on future pregnancies, failed abortion, hemorrhages, hepatitis, infection, laceration of the cervix, more miscarriages later, and the list goes on. The funny thing about abortion is that men are the deciding factor of whether it should be legal or not. Obviously, everyone knows that men have no clue what women go through and what pregnancy is like and yet, they are the ones to make the decision. The state of Minnesota allows these horrible things to happen, but it’s legal?
Abortion should be illegal in the United States and all over the world. “We are allowed to take life under the prescribed requirement of law such as self defense, war, execution, etc. Self defense is justified because someone is breaking the law and we can use force to protect ourselves. War is legal declaration of hostilities toward another nation. Execution is legal taking life against someone who has committed a crime or crime worthy of execution. They all deal with wrongs that have been committed” (Slick). They are executing someone who’s committed no crime, yet they are killed. “Since when do we kill someone who’s broken no law?” When do we kill someone who’s only “crime” was to be brought into existence” (Slick).
Babies, fetuses, and embryos are living human beings. Just because they’re not born yet, does not mean they don’t have a heart that beats or feeling. 52% of women getting abortions in the United States are younger than twenty-five. They are all at risk, but they put themselves in that situation by killing an innocent baby, who hasn’t done anything wrong. There is no reason for all the murders and it needs to stop.

Cause and Effect on the drinking age

Cause and Effect
Block 4

This is a new generation and for underage teen, drinking is the next cool thing. Why is drinking popular and what makes underage drinking so cool? Who is to blame for the stupidity of underage drinkers? People may think teens that choose to drink while underage don’t stop to think what the cause and effect will be.
It’s not all teenagers fault that they don’t think before drinking. Commercials on television are the worst influence on teens. They use really young actors/actresses to promote the alcohol. Also they pick the prettiest and best looking actors/actresses to lure teens into thinking that if they drink they’ll look like that or meet someone who looks like that. One can’t blame just television commercial for the influence of alcohol.
Parents on the other hand need to step it up and set a good example for their children. Some parents allow their kids to drink with them at home. Even though this is legal in most states this is the worst example a parent can ever set. By doing allowing this to happen they are telling their children that alcohol isn’t bad, since they drink it. Also they’re pretty much giving their child permission to drink when they’re not around. Parents need to be more responsible and alert. If they don’t want to see their child messed, in jail, or dead. They need to be real parents and take actions. Teens are influenced most of the time by people around them.
Sometimes going to school is the worst place to be influence due to peer pressure. Teens are influenced each day to do something that they know is wrong, but do it to keep their friends. Underage drinking is probably the biggest influence in schools that teenagers go through. Drinking to most teens make them feel mature and popular, since they can relate to others in the school. It makes them feel like they belong somewhere, so they’ll continue to do it. Sometimes it’s just fun to drink away the stress and pain that teenagers come across.
Even though underage drinking is common everywhere in the United States it doesn’t make it okay. Many people play a big part of why students don’t have any knowledge about the result of drinking underage, but drinking underage does not make it cool.

Critical Thinking

Critical Thinking

When it comes to critical thinking it is probably the last thing on our minds. Most of the time we don’t stop to think and we just take the easy way out. When we, as human beings, make a decision do we end up doing the right thing or making the wrong decisions? Is critical thinking worth the time or is it better to save time and take the easy out?
When you tell someone to think critically and make the right decision most people don’t have a clue what you’re talking about and just ignore you. Others could care less about critical thinking because they’re comfortable with what decisions they’ve made. To others critical thinking is an important part to their daily lives. Critical thinking helps us to make the right decisions whether we like it or not. It’s like an organizer for some people or a parent telling them to stop and do the right thing. We all face difficult decisions in life and most of the time we don’t even know it.
I remember going to the mall with my sister one summer. She wanted to buy clothes for the school year. I thought it would take about an hour or forty-five minutes, but was I wrong. She took three hours to shop for a pair of jeans. I asked her why she took so long and her explanation was that, she had to think it through and ask herself a whole bunch of questions whether it was worth it buying the pair of jeans. I mean, come on it’s a pair of jeans. Since she’s a college student she needs to use her money wisely and she wanted to make sure the jeans would last a more than a year, especially since price of the jeans were expensive. She took her time and thought critically about how much the jean were and if they’ll last as lone as they were worth.
As human beings we don’t think before we buy or do something. We tend to go with want we want and not what is best for us. If we learn to discipline ourselves and teach ourselves how to think critically I believe that it can benefit us in the future.
Sometimes the easy way out is not always the best way because of the consequences that follow. If we stop and think thing through there won’t be as many problems. Whether we make the right decisions or not if we think critically we’ll have a better chance of not making mistakes.

On Thinking

On Thinking

Hannah Arendt stated in a quote that, “Thinking… is a solitary but a lonely business; solitude is that human situation in which I keep myself company. Loneliness comes about when I am alone without…being able to keep myself company… [In thinking] I am both one who asks and the one who answers.” Many people may agree and disagree with this quote, but in my opinion I agree with this quote.
When I first moved to Marshall I was shy and reserved. I kept to myself and didn’t have many friends. Most of the kids at my school had best friends and little cliques. I was the type of person who wanted to be alone and scared of being made fun of. I remember thinking to myself, but saying it out loud. This kept me company and I began to enjoy talking to myself.
Growing up with three older sisters and two younger brothers I had to learn how to think for myself. As the middle child I always followed the crowd. Where ever my sisters would go I would go and whatever they did I would want to do. I would talk to myself and yell at myself sometimes to keep me on track. I would also have to give myself a little chat to keep me in line or to help me focus on the main task.
Now I’m older and I’m so use to talking to myself that I don’t realize that others are around. When I’m studying I tend to talk to myself and it helps me to focus. When no one is around I’ll answer myself once in while. Talking to myself is lonely, but I’ve gain knowledge and courage to think for myself.
Thinking is lonely, but when we’re alone we can think for ourselves. As a child growing up I’ve learned so much and I would never regret it.

Excellence

Excellence paper
Block 4

Lorne A. Adrian quoted, “I am careful not to confuse excellence with perfection. Excellence, I can reach for; perfection is God’s business.” Most people see the word excellence as a word to describe perfection, but to me excellence has a different meaning and is the closest us humans will ever get to perfection.
Excellence to me is going beyond and achieving the impossible, which means setting a goal that is difficult and accomplishing it with commitment. To achieve excellence you must work hard and persevere. Excellence is not achieved by sitting around and hoping for it to somehow hit you in the face. To achieve the impossible we need to make it possible by having confident in ourselves and motivation.
In Reading Between the Lies, it talks about a young man by the name of Jayson Blair who was a journalist stealing peoples stories and making it his own. He even went further by making up stories about people he didn’t know just to get a good report. Some may say that he was a good journalist not knowing what he had done and praised the New York Times for having such an excellent journalist. In my opinion Blair was no where near excellence. He let people think it was his stories when it wasn’t. He lied and stole others stories, which does not show hard work and achieving a goal. He stole others achievements and took the praise and glory all for himself. People these day do not see stealing and cheating as something wrong because they see excellence as an impossible task to achieve.
I believe that cheating is the result from pressure to achieve excellence. For example in the article called, Student Cheating it talks about how students in schools these days admit that they didn’t know that cheating or plagiarizing was wrong. Students are so caught up in trying to be the best or pressured by parents to do well in school that they forget what is right from wrong. The fear of getting into trouble slips away from their minds once they realize all the pressure that is put on them. They become way too focus on getting things done and if they run out of time they try to find an easier way out to make life easier for them. This is no way to achieve excellence because without doing your own work and realizing how hard work is truly done excellence can never be achieved.
As you can see Excellence cannot be perfected, but achieved because without mistakes we can never achieve excellence. Perfection is flawless and exact and we as human beings are not perfect, which means we should leave perfection up to God. Then that leaves us with excellence and to achieve we must be our true selves. Excellence can be who we are if we achieve it the right way.
