Dr. J.C. Willke defines the word alive as, “that which is growing, developing, maturing, and replacing its own dying cells.” If this is the true meaning of living, how does it differ from a baby inside a mother’s womb? Simple answer, it doesn’t. The baby is a growing fetus and developing inside the mother’s stomach. This is why abortion should be illegal.
“An abortion is the forcible removal of a developing baby from the womb of his or her mother, using surgical, mechanical, or chemical means” (The Reference Self). In the United States alone, there have been 1.7 million abortion per year and approximately 3,700 a day. Different procedure can be used to have an abortion. One for example is Dilatation and Extraction, which “the baby is delivered feet first. The head is left inside the birth canal. A sharp instrument is used to puncture the rear of the skull at the base and the brains are sucked out, once dead, the baby is fully delivered.” Others are Dilatation and Evacuation, Partial Birth, Pregnancy Reduction, and Saline Amniocentesis. A lot of the procedures are done by either poisoning the baby or physically killing the baby with a tool. Many of the mothers who have an abortion do not see how wrong and bad abortions can be.
The women having abortions are not just killing the babies, but they are putting themselves in danger at the same time. Having an abortion may come with complications after the procedures. They can get bladder injury, bowel injury, breast cancer, tubal pregnancy, effects on future pregnancies, failed abortion, hemorrhages, hepatitis, infection, laceration of the cervix, more miscarriages later, and the list goes on. The funny thing about abortion is that most men are the ones to decide if abortion should be legal or not. Obviously, everyone knows that men have no clue what women go through and what pregnancy is like and yet, they are the ones to decide whether it’s legal or not. The state of Minnesota allows these horrible things to happen, but it is okay in their eyes.
Abortion should be illegal in the United States and all over the world. “We are allowed to take life under the prescribed requirement of law such as self defense, war, execution, etc. Self defense is justified because someone is breaking the law and we can use force to protect ourselves. War is legal declaration of hostilities toward another nation. Execution is legal taking life against someone who has committed a crime or crime worthy of execution. They all deal with wrongs that have been committed” (Slick). People are executing someone who’s committed no crime, yet they are killed. “Since when do we kill someone who’s broken no law?” When do we kill someone who’s only “crime” was to be brought into existence” (Slick).
Babies, fetuses, and embryos are living human beings. Just because they’re not born yet, does not mean they don’t have a heart that beats or feelings. 52 % of women getting abortions in the United States are younger than 25. They are risking their lives to kill an innocent baby who hasn’t done anything wrong. There is no reason for all the killings and it needs to stop.
